URBAN COMPOSITIONS // urban mixed use // franklin and page street, san francisco, ca
Spring 2011: Arch 200b design studio
32 residential units, art gallery/film/installation space, restaurant/cafe, and an urban park. each unit has access to natural light and shared light wells positioned between units. open air hallways provide natural ventilation and establish a relationship between outdoor space and the individual unit. exterior terraces create an extension of the interior space and view and presence onto the public and outdoor performance space. it was important to allow each unit access to views of the public space to relieve yet heighten tension between private and public elements. the light sensitive programmatic areas: the art gallery, film and installation space are situated below grade.
